One Test Identifies 22 Respiratory Pathogens
Elite Hospital Kingwood offers PCR respiratory panel testing with online registration to help you take the best care of your patients. A nasal swab and about 45 minutes will identify one of 22 respiratory pathogens, using the BioFire RP2.1 Panel.
Results are texted/emailed right to the patient or parent, allowing for targeted treatment if appropriate. It has been fascinating to see the “personalities” of the different viruses and to follow the local epidemiology of the bugs going around school and work. Patients and parents seem to love having the additional information, even if symptomatic care is all that is needed. It has also helped tremendously with antibiotic stewardship!
