Disaster Preparedness for Your Family
Disaster preparedness offers a program to create practical, sensible and synchronized preparation which decreases replication of energy and efforts and also maximizes the overall success of families, neighborhoods and first responders. Disaster preparedness actions rooted with threat reduction strategies are able to protect against emergency conditions as well as bring about protecting lives and livelihoods at the time of any catastrophic situation, allowing those impacted to find normalcy within a reasonable amount of time.
Reading about disaster preparedness doesn’t prevent anything. It’s time to take action. Is your family ready to mobilize and leave home with the ability to survive until help arrives? What should you pack? Where do you go? How will others find you? What about pets? It’s almost too much to think about. That’s why Elite Hospital Kingwood is taking the initiative to help get you started.
Meet B.O.B.
If you’re a fan of bloggers and websites like Pinterest, you can do a search for “disaster preparedness” and find a plethora of information. We borrowed the term B.O.B. from the Internet to help give your family a friend in their time of need. B.O.B. is short for “Bug Out Bag”. Bug Out = Get Out.
Your family may have several days of advanced notice of an emergency such as weather reports predicting a hurricane; however, an impending flash flood may only give you 30 minutes or less to mobilize everyone and get out safely.
Our disaster preparedness guide was created to help your family be ready to mobilize and move. You’ll have three days of food rations, medication, important documents, first-aid, and more. Our checklists are there to help you know what to pack, where to go and how to get help in a life-threatening emergency.
Assembling the Guide
Purchase a 1″ binder and sheet protectors. Slide the cover page into the binder cover, fill in the blanks and check marks, then slide the completed pages into each sheet protector. You’ll then be ready to call a family meeting to go over the contents. Each member of the family should play a part from youngest to oldest. Make sure your family knows where their “bug out bag” is and where to mobilize with other family members. You’ll never regret being prepared and ready to go.
Ongoing Discussion
Over time, Elite Hospital Kingwood will continue the conversation and bring you more details on different “hacks” and techniques for making difficult emergency tasks easier to accomplish. As caregivers, parents or guides to our own families, age-appropriate tasks and drills will make sure everyone has an equal chance to get to safety.
We love our community and want to do what we can to keep everyone healthy and safe. We hope you find this information helpful and that you find it reduces the stress you feel the next time you’re faced with an emergency that can harm or displace your family.
